Bastille Day Lunch
17 July 2022
Once again, we will be celebrating Bastille Day at the very French-themed Republic of Letters restaurant at 239 Whitehorse Road, Balwyn, near the Palace Cinema.
Last year’s Bastille Day lunch was a great success, with almost 30 people enjoying the French atmosphere.
The set-price menu will cover a choice of all sorts of French delights, from French onion soup, quiches, French fries, crepes to roast chicken and beef bourguignon.
The restaurant is licensed, or there is a fee if you bring your own wine.
The one certainty about this year’s lunch is that we will be toasting the late Neil Beddoe, who died just a couple of days after attending last year’s Bastille Day celebrations.
To reserve your place at the Republic of Letters, call Colin Harris on 0432 302 414. Places are limited so bookings are essential.
PS: If you are wondering about the name of the restaurant, this is what Wikipedia has to say about it. “The Republic of Letters is the long-distance intellectual community in the late 17th and 18th centuries in Europe and the Americas. It fostered communication among the intellectuals of the Age of Enlightenment, or philosophes as they were called in France.”
